Overview

Search, inspect, scope, share and verify AI development setups

Preflight (formerly the AI Dev Kit, or ADK) manages an AI development setup the way a package manager manages dependencies: declared in a file, applied through a reversible transaction, and checked before you rely on it. It is a TypeScript CLI with an Ink terminal interface and an Electron desktop app.

Start here

New to Preflight? The Quickstart takes five steps: install, run Doctor, open the context map, adopt what it detected, and share.

What you get:

  • an inventory of skills, MCP servers, agents, hooks, plugins and instructions across Claude Code, Codex and Cursor;
  • Doctor, which reports findings and the smallest fix for each;
  • a context map of the instruction text a setup can load;
  • usage and cache statistics read from local transcripts (nothing leaves your machine);
  • loadouts, profiles and discovery of resources from several sources;
  • optional sign-in, sharing by link and teams.

The core loop

Preflight ships no skills, plugins or loadouts of its own. Point it at a content repository first, see Sources:

preflight source add github:arhunsaday/agent-kit@main
preflight search test # find a resource in the catalogue
preflight catalog-inspect skill:ponytail # read what it contains and asks for
preflight catalog-add skill:ponytail --dry-run
preflight catalog-add skill:ponytail # add it to the active profile
preflight verify skill:ponytail # check it is wired and healthy
preflight rollback # reverse the latest transaction

Ten resource types are managed: skills, MCP servers, subagents, hooks, slash commands, status lines, plugins, prompts, tools and instructions. Claude Code, Cursor and Codex have native adapters; a type an agent cannot hold stays inspectable and is flagged as catalogued only.

State

FileRole
preflight.config.jsondesired profiles and resources, committed to git
preflight.lock.jsonwhat was applied, with managed-file hashes (machine-local)
.preflight/transaction journals and the audit log (keep out of git)

Guarantees

  • Every write supports --dry-run and rollback, and interrupted writes are recoverable.
  • Nothing is silently adopted, overwritten or downloaded at startup.
  • Delegated installers (install --execute, git pull) are printed first and are not reversed by rollback.
