Terminal interface
preflight ui: a keyboard dashboard, the terminal counterpart of the desktop Overview
preflight ui needs an interactive terminal. It opens a dashboard. The
dashboard reads the same engine as the CLI and the desktop app. It works in
80x24 and in larger terminals.
Layout
- Tabs.
All, then one tab for each harness found on this machine (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor). A harness that is not installed has no tab. - Sections (left): Overview, Skills, MCP, Subagents, Hooks, Plugins, Instructions, Profiles, Doctor, Usage.
- Detail pane (right): the content of the section for the selected tab.
- Footer. The main keys, or the result of the last action.
The Overview shows the count of each resource type, the active profile, the
doctor finding counts and the estimated context cost in tokens. A resource
list shows name, scope and a status as glyph and word (● enabled,
○ disabled). Under the list, the pane shows the description and the source
of the selected item. The Doctor section lists findings by severity
(✖ error, ▲ warning, • info) with the message and the fix. The Usage
section shows sessions, tokens, cost estimate, cache hits and the skills that
no session called.
The colours follow the desktop app: a petrol accent and beacon orange for
warnings. Set NO_COLOR to remove all colour. The glyphs and words keep the
meaning.
Keys
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
↑ ↓ j k | move in the focused column |
← → h l | focus the sections or the items |
Tab, Shift+Tab | next or previous harness tab |
Enter | open the section; in Profiles, preview a switch |
g G | first or last item |
/ | filter the items. Enter keeps the filter, Esc clears it |
p | switch profile |
d | run the doctor again and show its findings |
m | manage resources (the full screen below) |
? | key reference |
q | quit |
Switch a profile
Press p, choose a profile, and press Enter. The dashboard shows a dry run:
the resource changes and the files that would change. Nothing is written at
this point. Press Enter to apply, or Esc to cancel. The switch uses the
same service call as preflight profiles switch.
Manage resources
Press m, or start with preflight ui --classic, to open the resource
manager. It keeps the actions that the dashboard does not cover: the
catalogue, detected resources and adopt, the resource form, the action
palette (Ctrl+K), : to run any CLI command, and the raw result view. Every
write there shows a dry run first. q leaves the interface.
